Madrid is one of Europe’s most visited cities. Each year it welcomes tourists of all types who arrive to enjoy the city’s many treasures: the liveliness and merrymaking of its bars, the gastronomic delights of its restaurants, the strolls and leisurely evenings offered by its parks, the cultural wealth of the museums on Paseo del Arte, the urban hustle and bustle and highly prized shopping of Puerta del Sol or walks through the city’s more bohemian or naïf areas like Barrio la Chueca.

Some of Madrid’s most typical streets can be found in its artistic districts. The city’s broad clean avenues flanked by sculptures, fountains and monumental buildings make it a true architectural gallery. A stroll along Calle Alcalá, from Puerta del Sol to Puerta de Alcalá, or along Paseo de la Castellana with its open air sculpture museum or the Salón del Prado decorated with the Fuente de las Cibeles fountain, as well as the other fountains set in the city’s countless gardens, make Madrid the gateway to the very essence of Spanish culture.
