Palladium

For many this is the paradise of fun. The DJ is relentlessly enticing people out onto the dance floor with a mix of intense but enjoyable music played to the rhythm of the hot and humid Acapulco night. Even from afar, it’s easy to find this club thanks to its searchlights, neon beams and sound system. The glass wall overlooking the enormous bay is lit up by kaleidoscopic lights when, at about 3:30 am, a man dressed like an Aztec warrior cranks up his show in the midst of a smoke filled stage. Not a single day goes by without fun at Palladium. It’s huge and delightful and there are lots of people to meet.

This is an unusual night club that looks like a cave, both inside and out. It has three bars, so getting a drink is hardly going to be a problem. The DJ’s job is to make sure no one stays on the sidelines in a place where everyone works up a sweat out on the dance floor. The music swings from hip hop to extremely energetic techno and then jumps into to house and dance rhythms. No matter the season, light summer clothes are a must at this nightclub. It’s also a good idea to have a reservation.

Pepe's Piano Bar

This bar is definitely for clubbers would rather get in the mood with slower romantic music. Alongside karaoke, they use melody to express their deepest feelings. And, if improvising backing singers are in short supply, an excellent piano player can accompany you. People of all ages come to this venue to kick back a beer or have a shot of tequila in a more relaxed setting. Pepe’s is open from Wednesday thru Sunday from 10 pm to 4 am.

Nowadays, fun is never absent in Acapulco. By day, the sea is like an amusement park. Just above its surface, all kinds of things are going on: swimmers splash happily at the water’s edge, crisscrossing jet-skis bounce along the waves, inflatable boats calmly take passers-by for a ride, a parachute carries someone who seems to soar like an eagle high above the ocean and gazes down at the speed boats, kayaks, yachts, and further out to sea, one or two cruise ships. At night, the attention moves away from the sea and hits the shoreline where restaurants, bars and nightclubs with colored lighting promise fun and enjoyment. These and other distinguishing features make Acapulco one of the most colorful and contrasting beaches in the world.

You can enjoy an incredible boat trip around this impressive fresh water lagoon separated from the ocean by just a narrow finger of land. Visitors can also go fishing and diving or take a powerboat ride over to the small islands that are home to an impressive array of flora and fauna.

Roqueta Island

Diving is a must on this island where treasure was once buried. It is surrounded by calm waters and you can eat seafood or enjoy a refreshing drink while you take in the pristine scenery or watch a pre-Columbian show. The local zoo offers visitors a chance to see deer, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, crocodiles, lions and other animals. Down at the docks, glass-bottomed boats are waiting to take you out to Caleta and Caletilla beaches and take a gander at what’s down there.

Fort San Diego

Built by the Spaniards as protection from pirates like Francis Drake, this fort, built in the form of a star, is now a historic monument. It stands in the Petaquillas neighborhood, in the old heart of downtown, and houses the Acapulco Historic Museum, which explores the history of this part of the Pacific Coast, from the appearance of the first inhabitants thousands of years ago to trade with Asia and the development of the city itself.
