The territory covered by this city on the edge of the Pacific Ocean was discovered on January 6th and this led to it being named the City of Kings. The history of Lima, which was founded in 1535, is inscribed in its monuments, the Cathedral and the colonial buildings of the historical center. But if you wish to travel even further back in time you can see the pre-Colombian Inca origins of Lima at archeological sites such as Pachamacac.
But it is not only the history to be seen in Lima’s museums, archeological sites, colonial buildings and traditional dance that attracts tourists as the city has a life of its own, a pulsating and contemporary life. This can be sensed when you spend a night in the romantic and bohemian neighborhood of Barranco, visit the beaches or, even better, go for a meal at a restaurant in a city that is increasingly recognized as a gastronomic delight thanks to its fusion of ingredients and recipes from the Andes, Africa, Spain, China, Italy and Japan. Hunger will never be a problem here in Lima...
