AeroMexico, New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico officials commemorate historic first airline service between markets

Government, civic and business officials from New Mexico, Chihuahua, Mexico, and AeroMexico commemorated today the historic launch of the first scheduled airline service between Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Chavez of Albuquerque officially marked the occasion with presentations and a ribbon-cutting event at Albuquerque International Sunport.  Other participating dignitaries included Frank Galan, Vice President, U.S. Operations, AeroMexico; Secretary Fred Mondragon, Economic Development Office, New Mexico; Secretary Mike Cerletti, Tourism Department, New Mexico; and other civic and business officials as well as leading travel agency representatives.
 
Jose Luis Barraza said, “AeroMexico is proud to be part of this historic start of airline service that will help expand travel, business and tourism opportunities between Albuquerque, New Mexico and Chihuahua City in Chihuahua.  Our new flights will make it much easier to travel between these two neighboring international states and will strengthen the connections they already share.”
 
A VIP delegation led by Governor Baeza filled the first flight from Chihuahua City that departed at 11:05 a.m. MST and arrived in Albuquerque at 12:25 p.m. MST, as well as the inaugural flight from Albuquerque that departed at 3:00 p.m. and arrived in Chihuahua City at 4:20 p.m.  Governor Richardson; Secretary Mondragon; Secretary Cerletti; Mayor Chavez; travel agency representatives and other dignitaries joined the delegation from Chihuahua City on the return flight and also participated in ceremonies and meetings at the airport in Chihuahua City.
 
Barraza added, “We appreciate the support from Governor Richardson, Governor Baeza, Mayor Chavez and other government, business and civic officials which made it possible to begin this vital, long-needed airline service. They also recognize the need that exists for this service and have been committed to improving transportation links and stimulating economic and tourism development for the people and businesses they serve.” 
 
AeroMexico has scheduled non-stop flights three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between Albuquerque and Chihuahua City.  Connecting service is available in Chihuahua City to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Torreon and Tijuana, Mexico.  Embraer ERJ 145 regional jets, which comfortably accommodate 50 passengers, will be used on the route.
