Chicago Spire: the most awaited building
At the shore of Lake Michigan, the Chicago Spire is a residential development, inclusive of a collection of 1200 residences, designed by the world-famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, creator of The City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia, Spain and The Turning Torso in Malmö, Sweden.

Its structure and especially its height have made this Calatrava creation one of the most talked about and anticipated building projects. The building’s structure is designed to withstand strong city winds. In addition, its channels and spiral shape further contribute to its originality.

Its unique and original shape is inspired by nature and the interaction of air, earth and water. Calatrava´s vision, geometric and organic at the same time, resembles a smoke column as those seen in the times of the native Indians, when they made their campfires at the shore of the Chicago River.

Construction commenced in 2007 and is planned to be finished in 2012. Upon completion, the Spire will be the tallest skyscraper in the Western hemisphere, beating the Sears Tower in Chicago and the CN Tower in Toronto. This will make it the tallest residential building in the world with 150 floors that will have floor-to-ceiling windows.

The two-floor penthouse, with an enviable 360º view of the city and lake, is valued at $40 million, a record price for the Chicago real estate market.
